Obama as a fast food brand?
Those of us in the brand design world marveled at the quality and strength of the brand created by the Obama campaign during the recent US elections. So, I suppose that it’s only natural to try some “brand extensions.”
According to Germany’s Spiegel, “a German frozen food company hopes to raise sales with a new product: Obama fingers. The tender, fried chicken bits come with a tasty curry sauce. The company says it was unaware of the possible racist overtones of the product.
“Sprehe, a company that has all manner of frozen delicacies on offer, has come up with a new product it calls “Obama Fingers.” Far from being real digits, though, the “fingers” in question are “tender, juicy pieces of chicken breast, coated and fried,” as the product packaging claims.
“We noticed that American products and the American way of eating are trendy at the moment,” Judith Witting, sales manager for Sprehe, told SPIEGEL ONLINE. “Americans are more relaxed. Not like us stiff Germans, like (Chancellor Angela) Merkel.”
The idea, she claimed, was to get in on the Obama-mania which is continuing to grip Germany. The word “fingers” in the name refers to the fact that it is a finger food. “It’s like hotdogs,” Witting said. “No one would ever think they are actually from dogs.”

The CI Sense blog used their Trademark Explorer to find new trademarks associated with presidential candidates. Here are a few highlights:
- Mo’Bama- Apparently to be used for a ‘natural cosmetic skin care powder’.
- Broccoli Obama – We wish we were kidding about this vegetable dish.
- Obama Llama – Yep, that’d be a stuffed toy. And, of course, the unrelated theme song.
- Obamanator – An ale from Denver’s Wynkoop Brewing Company. It’s already on the menu, apparently.
More and more Obama branded products seem to turn up daily. Do you have another example of other politicians as product brands? (or even products that ought to be branded with a politician) If so, leave them in the comments below, I would love to see them.

Arnold is another politician that has his brand swiped a lot. Here’s an article about a company that had its Governator Ale terminated:

(and since bock-style ales traditionally end in -ator the joke was that it was an “I’ll be bock”)

Bloomberg is another interesting one – he has a very authoritative presence as a pol, and his company’s brand is very similar.

Have you seen the ads for the new Chia Obama? It comes in “Happy” and “Determined.”

Don’t forget Lincoln Logs (which, I just learned, were invented by Frank Lloyd Wright’s son).
